The food wasn't great. I got the fish tacos and I skipped the tortilla. They were corn tortillas and not cooked so very chewy. The fish was good, it was fried so it could've been any kind of fish and I couldn't tell you what it was and the corn salsa was meh, bland, but the Chipolte sauce on the side was tasty. My son got the bacon cheeseburger and fries and loved it. Hubby got the bar b q pork sandwich, he said it was just ok. Daughter had the garlic shrimp and said it had way too much butter. But we did like the view and the music was a nice touch.

Five stars on the waterfront view. Four stars on the food. Three stars for the service. Overall, I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars. The outdoor seating is pretty spectacular. There are tables that extend all the way down a dock; there is another area for outdoor tables closer to the restaurant; and there's an outdoor lounge area with couches and an overhead roof. All of this looks over the gorgeous Eel Pond. The indoor area is very spacious. The food: She had a kale salad with shrimp that she really liked. I had a burger, which was one of the best I've had in a while. (Sadly I have an extremely disappointing shellfish allergy that prevents me from commenting on the more interesting items of this menu.) The food and drinks were slightly overpriced, but I expected that given this is a tourist location. The service: It was "meh." We had 2 servers (We had food on the outdoor deck; and moved to the outdoor lounge for after-dinner drinks) and in both cases they had friendly attitudes and weren't terrible, but were definitely too slow. All the waiters looked really young.The place seemed a little under staffed when it came to servers. Another minor complaint: The bathrooms are very small and outdated.

I have been here twice and would not return. The service was terribly slow, despite very few diners during off peak hours (2pm on a weekday). I got the pulled pork sandwich. Instead of a tasty tomato/bbq based sauce, the pork was smothered in what tasted like Frank's Red Hot. I also tried the burger, which was just a standard, run of the mill burger. There wasn't anything special about it. My father had the fish tacos. While he said they were decent, he was displeased by the fact that there weren't any sides accompanying the tacos. A slaw or chips would have gone a long way to completing the small looking dish. Also, we asked to be seated outside, but were told that there was a wait list. However, where we were sat (directly in front of the busy kitchen doors), we had a clear view of several empty tables on the porch. We inquired a second time if we could eat outside and were again told there was a wait. The tables remained empty for the duration of our visit (which lasted approximately 1 1/2 hrs due to the slow service).

Cute, nautical themed place in Woods Hole. Crab cake was just mediocre with too much filler and a roll that was too bready. My partner had the fish tacos and they were really delicious. Service was alright. Kind of slow for a middle of the afternoon meal. It was not crowded by any means. The location and outside seating area is excellent but parking can be a problem during peak season.

Did I crash a Greek Wedding? It certainly sounded like it with the number of plates tumbling to the floor all evening. This was a strange dining experience to say the least. It started with the hostess telling groups coming in that the wait was 45 minutes for both inside and outside dining. There were clearly multiple tables wide open. After 20 minutes she realized that she made a mistake. The next faux pas was a server unsure if there was dressing on our salad. The salad went back and forth in a state of confusion. Finally re-arriving for a third time with dressing. Another server arrived with entrees. Two members of our group ordered steak frites. "who ordered the medium steak?" My father raised his hand. "Who ordered the well done?" My boyfriend responded with "I ordered rare." "Oh well then this is medium and that is rare" she said pointing to the steak in front of my father. The "medium" was clearly overdone. My father asked for a glass of Chardonnay which was forgotten about until he asked a second time. When we got the bill it turned out that it was a $14 glass of wine! The fish and chips I ordered were rubbery. On the plus side, the corn bread was good and my beer was cold. We paid way too much for this meal.

Great food. Good service every time we've gone, but during the summer you have to dodge the temporary, young staff that don't know you shouldn't gossip in the doorway as guests are squeezing by on their way to a table. Excellent view. Best during sunset.

I went for a late lunch this past weekend. The renovation looks nice and inviting. I ordered a raw bar platter and was told that they were out of oysters. Disappointing, but they added extra littlenecks and shrimp. The food was alright. My bill came to a total of $25.00 for the raw bar plate with a dollar or so for tax. I had a beer which was mistakenly put on my friend's bill. I paid the bill with a $5 tip since the waitress was very friendly if a bit slow. Today, I look at my bank account online and see a charge for $114.49 from the Captain Kidd. Completely unacceptable. I called the restaurant but they are closed so I'll try to deal with this through my bank until I can get through to a manager.

I'm in full agreement with Tom - this place WAS the real deal & I miss the old Kidd! I love the location, the history, the staff and will even accept the decor updates from last year, although I don't think Falmouth needed another updated restaurant with high tables and bolstered benches. I've spent a lifetime of summers on Cape Cod at our cottage on Jenkins Pond and my family knew that once we landed in town, it was off to the Kidd. Too many years ago....I was sitting on the bench near the hostess station enjoying a beer one Friday evening while waiting for our table to free up (my wife & the kids were across the street walking through a craft fair in the fire house). A group of guys walk in to have a beer, they were killing time waiting for the ferry to MV and were trying to decide if they should stay there or not. I interrupted and told them that this was the place to be and asked the bar tender to show them the picture that used to hang on the wall behind the bar. It was a black & white photograph of one of the hurricanes years ago when water in the bar was knee deep and THEY KEPT SERVING! Long ago the picture had been pulled off the wall and stuck in a drawer - when they saw that they agreed they should stay. A few days later when we stopped in again, the bartender told me that they had stayed until the whistle was blowing for the last ferry and almost missed it. There are few places in this world where you can walk in & feel like you belong, that are original and un-apologetic for themselves - this was one of them. There were cards on one of the corner tables if you wanted to hang out & play, the kids would play hangman on the back of the place-mats or draw with crayons and there was a laptop with WIFI if you HAD to check your e-mail. The Disney-esc mural on the wall can stay, even the tall benches, but one TV will do - this isn't the ESPN Zone. We don't care about the bathrooms or slightly slow service (we have no schedule) but please give us back the old menu with the platters of belly clambs, the fat burgers, and the fried shrimp - save the fancy stuff for the people on the other side. I only hope somebody who gets to make the decisions there sees this and realizes that you had it right the first time!

We were thoroughly pleased with our experience here. 5 of us for dinner and we all left very satisfied. The decor was very nice and even though we were seated inside, there are great outside dining options available. Pitchers of beer that left us all have about 2 pints, fish tacos were great, as well as the fish and chips. I'd definitely go here again!

Not the best clam chowder. Barely any flavor.. Could have used some bacon or spices?! Was there any lobster in the pork lobster dumplings?? Steamers also flavorless. Does the chef have taste buds?? Saving grace was my cocktail, great live music and the new renovations.

Sometimes change is not good, it can be horrendous. We have been coming here since the Falmouth Road Race was "an infant". We have enjoyed and supported Captain Kidds through hurricanes , renovations, their ups and downs! We have gathered on the dock for many dinners and have many memories from time spent at the great bar and playing pinball. Well last night we walked in and everything had changed..decor, menu and SERVICE or maybe I should say " lack of service". Gone were the friendly bartenders, gone was the comfortable, authentic Woods Hole traditional decor and gone was Customer Service. I am and have been Vegan for over 30 years. I NEVER have problems eating out and had never encountered problems at Captain Kiidd's, until last night. I ordered a salad, their VEGAN black bean soup and grilled asparagus. My friend ordered an entree and a side order. Well people came, ate and left. We sat waiting. The bartender ( we were seated at the bar) never updated us on our meals and when questioned she continuously replied that she put everything in. It was busy but not overly busy. No excuses. My friend's entree arrived, cold and nothing for me. His side never arrived and no one seemed to know what happened to my salad, soup (which was on their menu) and asparagus. My friend's side never arrived. Since no one seemed to know anything, I told them to cancel my entire order. NO APPOLOGIES OFFERED, the bill came and they not only charged for both our drinks and my friend's entree, but also INCLUDED HIS SIDE ORDER WHICH WAS NEVER SERVED. No one thought to offer a complimentary drink and remove my cocktail considering the circumstances. No APPOLOGIES and not an once of good business practice. Not a single answer was offered to my questions. I guess all good things must come to an end. None of us will ever return to this establishment. I have already told my running friends that we don't have to travel to Woods Hole any longer after the SUMMER AND FALL RACES. Too bad....sad!

We have been here several times this summer since they renovated. We live here and were pleasantly surprised to find that each time we went we felt like WE were on vacation! Excellent lunch menu and the prices are affordable. The fish tacos are to die for! The staff there is fantastic and so are the cocktails. I would highly recommend dining on the deck or having cocktails in the lounge. We brought visitors from the UK there and they absolutely loved the experience of being on the water. Very relaxing atmosphere! Don't miss out on this gem.

I hadn't been here in a while, but paid a visit here this past weekend and it's totally renovated - modernized and the menu is updated, and everything was fantastic! We sat outside on the deck, ordered a grilled cheese for my son, which arrived in minutes. I got the crab burger, which was giant and full of fresh crab, and my husband got the clam roll, which I tried and loved. Even the tartar sauce was awesome - huge chunks of pickles in it. We splurged for dessert and tried the chocolate lava cake, which was ridiculously indulgent for a mid-afternoon treat, but we devoured every last morsel of it -phenomenal. Can't wait to go back and check out more of the options on the menu!

OMG !!!! SURPRISE GEM!!! Best pizza ever!!! After a 20 + hour drive from Iowa the Capt Kidd was the only place open for a late snack. Bartender let us know that pizzas were the only available item. When it's late and your'e told ...."just pizzas " your'e expectations are not really high. When your tired, hungry and thirsty you really don't expect some late night gourmet dishes. . My friend and I ordered a couple beers and a Margarita pizza. I'm not alone when I say it was the best pizza I've ever had! I know it sounds silly to say but trust me.....it's was amazing and made from scratch! I guess the cook takes serious pride in his dishes or at least the pizzas....and I'm glad he does. Please please please give them a try! We will be back again for seconds and were only here for a few days ;)

We are locals in Falmouth and use to frequent this place. We had not been there since the Fall. The Owners of the once Leeside and Captain Kidd Restaurant sold the Leeside and invested all in the Kidd. This place is definitely not the same. The chowder is different. They have tried to make it an upscale place, however the service was some of the worst we have received. I dine all over the country on a regular basis, and have not received such lousy service. The Management should get a clue and hire some staff that are friendly and serve food with a passion and a smile. Murray, our server yesterday, acted like we were putting him out just for being there. I new something was up when I heard the table next to ours talking negative about our same waiter. Our family used to like coming here, but I will do my best to steer people away from this place. We use to dine here because of its great chowder and service. It was a great place to come in the Winter or any time of the year. I will also be making sure the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce is aware. It's important for people like Jay Zavala and Michael Kasperian to know this, so they don't embarrass themselves by recommending it to visitors and towns people. Sadly, we will not be going back to the Captain Kidd Restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Great atmosphere and history in the place... The bar tender is a super nice guy and has been with them for a long time and was a great source of information to satisfy my wife's and my curiosity. Now the fish and chip and sea food platter where good but a little pricey. The beer was cold and very yummy. We will go back.

We visited Martha's Vineyard yesterday and didn't have dinner there (what a mistake) just to have dinner and eat at Captian Kidds (another mistake). We sat outside at night and the lighting was so bad that I couldn't read the menu or see my food. The waitress was horrible. She was a young girl who smiled a lot and out of it. She lied to us about forgetting our appetizer (the worst buffalo wings, too hot) and forgot to give us plates for them and when they finally came with no napkins. Didn't clear our table and we ended up with a full table of dirty glasses and dishes. Very overpriced. Stay away. I hope restaurant management reads reviews and trains these phoney waitresses to serve properly. I visits Woods Hole a lot and will never go again, and will tell my friends to say away. Thanks for ruining my night!

I've been going to the kidd for more than 10 years. Food has never been good nor has service. But last night was the last time iwill ever go. Was with a party of 8 and sadly had to give an 18% tip for worst service ever. Nasty young waitress, food was tasteless, everything- fish, shepherds pie, pizza, chicken. Fries were soggy and old. This place had become a sad, unappealing dump. There is clearly no management, and they just don't care about it. What a pity. I won't be back and neither will most of MBL. Pie in the sky for breakfast, lunch and dinner I guess.

We just left the Kidd. The location is always great with a beautiful view but that is really the only thing good about it. The service is horrendous (really the worst I have had in a long time). The food was mediocre. They do not understand the concept of having appetizers, then salad and then your entree. Pretty much all our food came out at the same time which is extremely annoying. How can you eat it all at once? We are locals and live in Falmouth. There are many other restaurants in town that are well worth the money. Not so much with he Kidd

Small portioned, not-so-great, and VERY overpriced food. Rude bartenders who think they own the place. Also, when you're wondering why your waitress isn't refilling your iced tea or soda...it's not necessarily because she's a bad server, it's that you have to pay another $2 for a refill. Classy, right? They have been known to throw a pretty decent winter formal party from time to time. It's just a shame a place with such history and potential can't step it up.

Expected to sit on the Tavern side, but ended up on the Restaurant side. Good thing too, as the menu was much more our style. Outdoor seating is protected by a clear curtain, with views of the docks. If it wasn't so gloomy, I bet the view would have been fantastic. Service was really friendly, and just prompt enough. Try the Outrage drink, it's refreshing. 4 stars for the good food and potentially good view.

TAVERN SIDE: I was back on the Cape visiting my college roommate, and we decided to eat on here on the one rainy day this summer. Last year we'd walked past this place a thousand times, but always ended up at Shuckers. We went to the TAVERN side, and sat in the back nook overlooking the rainy, dark harbor. *STILL GORGEOUS* Our waitress was great, on point and friendly. She did everything she was supposed to, with a smile. I loved my surf and turf plate of stuffed shrimp and steak tips. Another friend got to Seaside Medley (?) which she liked. I forget what it was, but I think I saw shrimp, scallops, and salmon with rice? And another got the chicken sandwich as she doesn't eat any sort of seafood. It was great! RESTAURANT SIDE: After our dinner in the tavern side (we did it a little backwards), we went to the restaurant side as it was closing up for a drink. A fabulous drink to a fabulous night. It looked beautiful in there, I'd love to go back for dinner on this side. Ask for the bartender- Sam. Can't wait to head back to the Cape!

Descent place to grab drinks in Woods Hole. I didn't try the food but its an ok little bar with an ok back room looking over Eel Pond. When looking for a drink late night you don't have many options, so you will have to settle for this place.

OK. To be fair? It's not like Mexico but it IS like drinking the water in Mexico. The sailboats outside are nice yet not quite enough to compensate for being served a warm, rancid draft. But the sailboats were nice and never knew that the bilge pumps could be adapted for an emergency gastric lovage. Thank you so much to the lazy internal med guy whom was hanging on his boat. Surprising what rotten beer and a greasy serving of the Catch of Last Summer can do to a tourista!! Well that will teach me for trying to board Captain Kidd's ship I suppose.

This place was recommended to me by a local whom loves it. I ordered a Stella which the bartender claimed she had at the other bar (that is connected and accessible) but with a slow bar and down time I took a Budweiser. I ordered the special which was mussels with beer, garlic, and onion. The mussels I received had mushrooms and tomatoes in it. After eating about a half bowl I asked if my order was correct to which she didn't know "she wrote special mussels" but I declined a new one. Shepards pie was good. I ultimately felt the sense we were unwanted. Go to the restaurant side they seem a little nicer and they have Stella.

We wanted to sit outside near the water and have a nice view. That was the main reason we chose this restaurant when we were in Woods Hole. The atmosphere looks pretty inviting in that it has a nice nautical feel. The service was ok. Nothing wonderful or bad. I ordered the Grilled Ahi Tuna Sandwich which had seaweed on top. It was a creative combination and it tasted pretty good. My husband ordered the Homemade Lobster Salad. He said it tasted kinda ok. And about a half hour after we left, until the rest of the day, he was nauseous. It was very pricey for all that. I do have to add, though, that they have a homebrew ale, a style called cask-conditioned, that I just loved. I would go back for that drink.

No idea where to eat in Woods Hole, so we came here after looking at a lighthouse nearby. The menu is mostly fried foods and burgers. We got the turkey club and the tuna melt. It wasn't anything special, and was served with Cape Cod chips (how original). Two people paid $9 each. A little pricey for lunch but whatevs.

Two good looking women come to Captain Kidd and sit at the bar. Young bartender lets call him bartender A looks at the women. The women take it as I will be right with you. After 10 minutes the women still sit at bar drink-less. Bartender A waves another bartender B to take our orders. Bartender B cards the women and then walks away saying he will be right back. 5 more minutes pass, no orders taken. Now bartender A comes back "Did you guys order" "No" "You forgot your IDs" "No we have them" Bartender A proceeds to check with bartender B our id situation. 20 minutes later women are 'allowed" to order drinks. Wooohooooooo Great success!!!

Ah Hoy,Ye matey's! This may be an elite town but that's not the service that ye will receive at the Capt.Kidd ( tavern side). How about a few dozen flies to go with yer meal? Yuck! So the burgers were good -- spare some frickin' fries with the lunch menu for cris'sake's!! $9 for a burger = fries period. My Greek salad w/ a scoop of tuna was excellent but it had better be for $15. Bottow line -- bring a picnic lunch if you can before you visit the sights.

Went here for dinner w/ my husband and two kids, 5 and almost 8. Food: Food was ok - not awful but nothing great. We had calamari as an appetizer. Kind of eh. I had a lobster roll. The lobster salad part was fine but the croissant was kind of stale. Both kids got clam chowder. It was lemony which was off-putting. My husband got some sort of mixed seafood plate. Again - ok, not spectacular. We got one dessert to share- apple crisp. It was fine but seriously- this is meant for one person?? It was way too much. This is a pretty tourist trappy area so I guess overpriced for mediocrity is par for the course. Service: no complaints here. Our server was adorable and did a great job. I will say that they are crazy serious about carding here. One woman was carded who was clearly of age. Two young women were not only carded but there IDs were whisked away for some serious scrutiny somewhere in another room. Or maybe it's just sour grapes on my part? ;) View: Beautiful. Great big windows to look out into the harbor. It doesn't even seem like there are windows, sometimes, it's so stunning. The seats aren't super comfortable but the view certainly makes up for that.

We tried to sit on the Restaraunt side which has water deck seating, it's only good feature. I was seated for 5 seconds when the very inexperienced young waitress spilled 2 drinks down my back. We are local not tourist and have given the Restaraunt side a dozen or more tries over the 30 years we have been here and have always been disappointed. Service is always bad, food is hit or miss. Take the word of a local, go somewhere else. Fish mongers and Landfall are great choices.

Reviewing the bar side of the Capt Kidd, not the restaurant side. Good lunch menu, nice seating for the family in the nook overlooking the harbor. First order of mussels we ordered was lukewarm, many of them not opened. The waitress pulled them immediately and brought us a fresh, hot order shortly after, no questions asked! Rest if the meal was a cut above average. Probably one of the better places to go with kids in the Woods Hole area.

Oh, the Kidd. Many nights were spent here over pitchers of PBR, sitting on the barrels around the large wooden table, playing cards, laughing, chatting about research, looking out into the water as the boats passed under the bridge, eating late night pizza, and just enjoying a new place with new friends. Tom's review is pretty spot on: "The place is frequented by a lot of the Marine Biological Laboratories Staff, both local and summering twenty-somethings." I was one of those twenty-somethings this summer. The Kidd was a nice break after a long day of intense research. I didn't frequent it as much as some of my course mates, but I did enjoy the nights that began and often ended here. Whether we were meeting up here to then walk to a local beach, or just staying here for the evening, it was a good place to meet up and have a few cheap beers. I ate here once and enjoyed my meal. I don't specifically remember what I had since it was our last night there and I was more concerned with talking with everyone. They sat 20+ of us and the service was pretty great. The waitress even satisfied our request to bring out mozzarella sticks with a candle for someones birthday. Again, agreeing with Tom's review, be prepared to bring 2 forms of ID, especially if you're out of state. And oh, by the way, apparently your MBL badge doesn't count and sometimes the bouncers can be picky about credit cards. Bah.

I was not very impressed with Captain Kidd. It has a nice deck on the water, but the food is really so so at best. No refills on soft drinks, and they charge over $2 for 8 oz of soda. So I think I rather take my business to the Landfall next time when I am in Woods Hole.

Rode our bikes out to Woods Hole via the Shining Sea Bikeway and made a stop here for lunch. They have a nice little area out back that is covered and sits by the water which provides a nice view of the boats coming by and Cape Cop scenery in general. I got the Captain's Platter, which included a bunch of different fries seafood, which I ended up liking. The little round chunks (I have no idea what they area since I'm not a seafood eater!) were delicious and I had wished that I'd gotten a plate full of just those! My friend got the crab salad/roll that she had been craving all day and enjoyed it. Service was okay, I'm knocking a star down for that because there were times when our drinks were sitting there empty and the wait-staff seemed standing around talking, but that would not stop me from recommending this place. Delicious lunch on a beautiful Cape Cod day!

My mom, grandma and I ate here for a quick lunch before getting on the ferry to Martha's. We were pretty boring and all ordered the chicken salad salad - it was a salad with scoops of chicken salad and a raspberry dressing. The chicken salad was very good and you got two huge scoops. The dressing was also very good, but was very sweet - I had to stop eating the lettuce with the dressing and focus on just the chicken salad at the end because it was too rich. Overall it was good. The atmoshere looked nice (we sat in the room overlooking the water) but the seats weren't very comfortable and the acoustics didn't really allow you to hear who you're with because of all of the other conversations floating around in the room. The server was friendly but more occupied with a larger party.

let me disambiguate: there is the Captain Kidd Bar- and the Captian Kidd Restaurant. the drinking establishment is a fine old pub where everyone is welcome and happy, and many drunken scientists can be encountered. the restaurant I give less stars: like too WH restaurants, is overly-posh for a little sea-side spot. Beautiful place to sit outside, and the food is good, you just have the faint feeling that its trying to be something that it is not.

We were greeted by a rude hostess which was surprising because we are locals, and are used to the comfortable inviting atmosphere in most small establishments on Cape Cod. The server was very non-challant and had an attitude with us. We came here with out of town guests hoping to give them the Cape Cod waterfront dining experience, and were deeply disappointed. The food was sub par, we paid a steep price for a dish of mussels and at least a third of them weren't even edible. The shells were still closed. Overall, we would not recommend this place to a friend, or revisit it.

The atmosphere of the Captain Kidd is awesome. Boat gear tastefully on the wall, the marble long handrail, kegs as seats in some areas... The energy is awesome. I've been here both on a hot summer night and a cold winter's day with snow on the ground... It's a nice warm spot to conclude a night. The seafood also kicks the butt of the seafood found out where I am from, Seattle. They also keep Anchor Steam on tap along with some other good beers. It still gets 5 stars, but except for the long bar it's more of a group sit down place at night; maybe I am used to "don't disturb my bubble" philosophy of Seattle, but I found it difficult to meet others there.

I'm adding a star for ambiance. The location, waterside, is beautiful Cape Cod summery bliss. Otherwise, I (was expecting mostly fried food, but) was still impressed. The food was great - fresh salmon and tuna, well prepared. Great app's (oysters, baby lobster rolls, yummmmmm) and salad. The sides were adequate at best, though not purchased separately. Cocktails arrive looking glass half full-ish but they pack a punch. Wow. The dining room is funky, old, boarded, nautical - and the staff to match, almost: young, preppy, tanned, khaki with polo's and ties - looking like they all just jumped off a nice sailboat. Also notable, someone must have had an Ipod hooked into the sound system - a great acoustic-ish soundtrack was playing. Points here.

very cool place, but the food is mediocre and way overpriced. But that's the story for most places in Cape Cod. I recommend coming here for drinks then heading somewhere else for food. If you want to avoid all the snobby yuppies at Landfall in the summer this is definitely the place to go.

The lunch menu is a little limited, but the food was good. A little pricey, but with a nice view and good service, I didn't find much reason to complain. An okay option for lunch if you're in the area, but probably not worth traveling for.

Apparently this is one cool bar to go to if you are on the Cape. So, I've never eaten a thing here but for "night life" it's a decent spot to hang out. It's pretty spacious and the crowd is fairly young. The beer selection is pretty damn fabulous and they don't skimp on the booze in their mixed drinks. There is also a little area in the back where you can sit sort of outside and feel the breeze from the uh harbor? Probably one of the best places to hang out in Falmouth/Woods Hole if you're one of those wild people that likes to stay out past 9PM...and are over 21. I recall they were pretty strict with carding.

I like the decor here, a lot. It is just fun and a little goofy. I also like that they have Murphy's but not Guiness on tap. It is quirky, and I like it. Cash only? So what. How else are the summer douche-bags going to impress their douchettes? A couple of hundreds just look so much better than a plastic card, playuh! I ate there the other night and had the shepard's pie with a Murphy's pint. I enjoyed it just fine.

Excellent clam chowder....decent prices and if you can get a good waiter/waitress, the service is very good. Portions are a decent size and the draft selections for beer are awesome !!!! Parking is the only thing that sucks here...you are better off having to park a distance and walking tithe location to avoid the meter expiring.

I hate to say it but I was entirely underwhelmed by the Captain. First, the decor left quite a lot to be desired. Next, the drink menu was slim pickings and the bar? Cash only. Are you SERIOUS? I don't remember the last time I was in a cash only bar on domestic soil. I ordered a Spanish Coffee (I saw they had all the fixins) and was disappointed when the barmaid (she deserves this name) slammed a coffee+bourbon on the counter...when did bourbon become Spanish in ANY way? The Celtics game was on but the sound wasn't loud enough, the pizza was meh, the bouncer was a weirdo. The Captain is for kids.

The food was reasonably good pub food, but I was there with with family, so we were more impressed with the atmosphere than the eating. We had a great time. It's not cheap for the quality/quantity that you get, though...

The name and the view are awesome here...however, the service seems sort of subpar when you are only going in for drinks. The 3 times I have been in the servers have very stringent about who gets tables with window views (only if you get dinner)...even when the place is not full. Food was okay, but I think the fishmonger (right across the street) is more delicious and more comfortable. --I like not having to feel guilty asking for a window!

While on vacation in Woods Hole, Captain Kidd was recommended to me, and when I got to the restaurant I was entirely disappointed. The bartender was extremely rude to me when I asked if they had cider on tap and then when I came back two hours later with a friend, we waited almost 20 minutes for someone to seat us but no one came; even though two waitresses were sitting right in front of us and the bartender was looking right at me. I asked one of the waitresses if she could seat us and she said it wasn't her job. Also was entirely turned off by the decor, very blah. Yeah, not a place I was pleased by at all!

What can I say? This is absolutely my favorite bar ever. I was living out in Hawaii a couple months back, saw a kid out there wearing a Kidd shirt and almost hugged him. I grew up with this place, had some of my first awkward, drunken moments here, and have never yet managed to be kicked out, so admittedly I'm a bit biased. The place is frequented by a lot of the Marine Biological Laboratories Staff, both local and summering twenty-somethings, and older crowds who are laboring under the delusion that they will get a nice meal there. Don't buy in to the restaurant part. The bar-food and pizzas are great, but after so many rounds so is anything edible put in front of you. What makes this place so great is that it's consistently busy on weekends throughout the Summer, you get to sit on barrels around huge wooden tables, and the atmosphere's a lot more chummy than any of the places over in Pocasset. Beyond the fact you feel mildly like a pirate stepping into the place, one of the most unique things about the bar is the Harpoon special. The Harpoon Brewery releases a keg of a select beer variety to just a few bars throughout the state each month and the Kidd is one of those lucky few. Between the IPA and the Hef that they put out they can almost do no wrong in my book, and their specialties are always something to look forward to. So just make sure you make eye contact with the bartenders when you order something and they'll treat you decent. Bring two forms of ID just in case the bouncer's feeling like being a prick, and remember that this is New England. We're never nice to anyone until after a few.

We came for late lunch, seated at pontoon, it was wonderful view, under the sun with cool harbour breeze... Beautiful We ordered pork and crab wonton to share for our starter. I didn't expecting came with wonderful steam vegetables, was so nice and good portion too. Had steamer soft clams with dipping was so good. Lobster with corn on the cob and vegetable was delicious and fun to eat. All food was in good portion and good price. Free wifi. Our waiter was absolutely sweet and helpful. Food is outstanding: a solid 4 out of 5. Their kale salad is probably the best salad I've ever had. Kale, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, Almond Slices, Shredded Parm, and Avocado Lime dressing.... Sounds so simple but the texture and mouth feel associated with this salad just made it beyond outstanding. I was similarly impressed by the mussels. I've had their mussels 4 times and each time, I've thought this. Just be warned: order extra bread to ensure you can take advantage of the marinade, which begs to be soaked up by some carby goodness. My dining companion and I also feasted on the fish tacos (got them steamed) and loved them as well. We also ordered the fish "special," which was a pecan maple crusted cod stuffed with lemon butter. Basically, it was our divine dessert. We also shared an outstanding bottle of wine. We ended up getting a red blend by Josh. Also a pleasant surprise- great bottle at a fair price point. ($42). All that food and it came out to about $100- this place is very fairly priced! Other highlights included the great service from our friendly waiter Rich and the amazing outdoor views. Nothing beats that pier and the duck pond!

I have loved the bar with the marble rail for years. Then a couple of weeks ago we had dinner out on the dock. They don't reserve these tables so we lucked out and our guests from Montreal loved it! We were right on the water with a view of Eel Pond. The scallop dish was Delicious- not sweet- just fresh and tasty. Had mini chocolate bombe for dessert. It was a yummy combination of chocolate mousse and hard shell chocolate. Highly recommended. We found on street parking at 7 pm on a Saturday night. Not bad!!! And Woods Hole is a charming place for an after dinner walk.

We say on the lounge or bar side. We were able to get a seat out on the deck. The view was great. Very new England small port with lots of boats. We started with the calamari. It was delicious although a little small for the cost. I would have expected more. The cup of lobster bisque was great. Lots of flavor and lobster! My son loved it and kept on asking for some. This night there was also a band playing light quiet music. A def plus to the experience. Dinner however needed a little help. I ordered the chick sandwich and my wife ordered the lazy man's lobster. My dinner came out without the dry rub and slaw. I tried my wife's and it was good but lacked seasoning. Upon the server asking about my meal, she apologized for the mistake and the kitchen made me a new plate. The exec chef also came out to apologize. The hand cut fries were also great but again I think had little to no salt and pepper. Overall we had a nice experience. If they can season better and send the dinner out correctly it would be a true winner.

Great food! Loved the lobster panzanella they did last year. Such great renovations, with great ambiance and decor. Their tacos are fantastic. Service is always great and hostesses are fast and very accommodating. Beautiful dock dining! Bar side is always a great time as well...wonderful dark and stormy! Highly recommend.

We just had lunch here and it was a pretty bad experience. Initially we waited 5 at the door with no one offering to seat us. We finally were seated after I went to the longer to inquire about seating. Service was alright at first. The beer I asked for wasn't available. We asked for 3 waters and were only brought one with our drinks. I ordered chowder which wasn't brought out under our lunch was. Then we weren't given silverware or napkins. Had to wait several minutes for those after we asked. Waitress had an attitude after this, rather than being overly nice to make up for her shortcomings thus far. Food wasn't bad and location was nice. Too bad the service didn't meet up to it.

Went for dinner last night. Food was great, but I see why they don't get higher marks. They could easily raise their ratings with minor tweaks to the recipes, at least the dishes we had. My brother had the coconut scallops with mango salsa. The scallops were deep fried, which it didn't state in the description, really would've elevated the dish if they were sauteed instead. The mango "salsa" was not traditional, but was really fantastic when eaten with the baby kale and thin sliced brussel sprouts that were with it. I would almost serve it regularly as a side, or develop it more and make it into a very different cole slaw. My husband and I had the fire grilled halibut. The fish was super fresh and delicious, but the sauce over powered the fish a bit. It was also very spicy, which I love, but I think there would be a lot of people that wouldn't be able to tolerate so much heat. All in all, we had a great meal and the atmosphere is really nice, both inside and outside dining. Still one of my favorite places in the falmouth area. Would've given more stars if those recipes were tweaked just a bit. Forgot to mention that our server, Kat, was also extremely nice and very attentive.

Here's the good: the view is incredible, especially if you can snag a table in the back with the fireplace. The entire room is over water and it's a great experience. Also, the food is very good here and at decent prices. I had the clam chowder that was a lot more broth than anything else, which was disappointing. But the salmon was perfect. The bad: the service. I don't know if they were just having an off night, but there were plenty of mistakes. First off, I kept ordering the Heavy Seas IPA that was on cask, but kept receiving the IPA that was on tap instead. Then we ordered red wine, but the waitress came back with white wine. Then during our meal someone brought us ice cream that we didn't order, and he looked like he knew we didn't order it, but as we were the only people left in the back room, tried to put it on us. I am willing to give this restaurant another chance, but our first impression was not very good.

Food was excellent, atmosphere was ok, would have loved to hear some type of music outside. Pricing was ridiculous...2 very small appetizers and 2 drinks $60+with tip. Basic liquors not available. By basic I mean... stoli, bacardi, etc. Went to the restaurant part, but probably would have enjoyed the bar side more. Taste was there, view was there, service was ok, nothing special, but considering they had a busser, expo, etc, service should be more personal. Servers are essentially order takers, check droppers. No other responsibilities. Manager was present the entire time and hit every table he passed. He was a young man, but clearly gets it. Restaurant is beautiful. Spacing an issue, not enough room in between tables to walk.

I've been coming to Captain Kidd's for over 35 yrs. Went today for lunch like we do every summer. Worst experience ever! Ordered fish and chips and got a plate of grease and burnt potato wedges. Asked for a new order of "fries" that weren't burnt and was told ok - no apologies. They brought one new batch even though 5 of us had burnt ones. Fish was good (if you didn't eat the bottom) "fries" had no flavor even though they were covered in some kind of seasoning. If getting a new manager and a new chef last summer (according to our slow waitress) was how they planned on driving out everyone who loved the menu, look and feel of Kidd's then they have succeeded. This is one repeat customer who will not be back.

Got seated inside on a Sunday during mid afternoon. Outside was busy but inside didn't have more then five tables.. Took over 15 minutes to get greeted and once we were, water and coke still took another 10 minutes. Food actually came out pretty quickly though, and the server was friendly. I wouldn't recommend my vegetable melt, but my boyfriend got a burger that he said was delicious. Fries and Mac and cheese were meh. Drinks stayed empty and had to keep asking for refills. I can tolerate a restaurant that has bad food and good service or vice versa, but you can't have bad both. Two stars just because the actual host and server were friendly, just not efficient.

The word "Kidd" is appropriate. Average server age looks to be about 18. Food was good but service was bad. Two people in our party ordered lobster and one came. Waiter said he thought we said we were sharing. When is the last time anyone shared a 1.25lbs lobster? The screwup is not unusual but their handling of it was amateur at best. Everything needed to be prompted. Not organized at all. When you set up shop in a harbor you need to be much better with all the competition.

Here with Rebecca tonight, and what a superb seating spot I got us here. Simple dinner but a perfect spot here in Woods Hole. We had a young server that was all about us enjoying our time together with just the right amount of conversation from him. We had a glass of white wine and the Whales Tale beer from Nantucket which was indeed most welcome, though I do hate that they provided so little from the area really, and too much 'standard' fare. I mean who really needs ANY Budweiser??? The simple meals included perfectly cooked burgers and chicken, nothing too crazy here really. The spot where we sat, out along the water was truly TO DIE FOR just impressive. I cannot talk crazy for the dinner because of the seating, it really amazed that much. Were the burgers great? Sure they were.

My husband and I visited Woods Hole and was delighted by The Captain Kidd! We were referred by a friend who grew up in the area. The ambiance and service were excellent. We sat out on their back deck in the lounge area to relax, have some drinks, and good conversation. They have really nice couches with plush seating overlooking the harbor side. They placed a heater close to us due to the cool Cape Cod breeze which was a nice touch. Their playlist was nice, a good mix perfect for the lounge. The food was great, we tried the clam cakes and their wonton special. We enjoyed both! The drinks were perfect, well shaken with some nice shots. They didn't rush us out, (hate that) and the server was very pleasant. If you are in Woods Hole, give The Captain Kidd a chance, they won't disappoint.Thank you very much, we will certainly be back.

My wife and I visited this place last weekend and what a huge DISAPPOINTMENT!!! The server brought out the wrong dish twice and then my wife wanted a dinner roll with her meal and the server said, "sure, but that is going to cost you and extra $1" are you serious? On a $40 entree, the folks at The Captain Kidd cannot push the boat out for a dinner roll that was requested by a guest? The seafood was not fresh nor tasty ...the whole lunch experience was piss poor and we will never return. Poor service Poor food Why go? There are plenty of choices ...save yourself a headache and go elsewhere - you'll be pleased you did!

Came to this place because we were in Woods Hole for the day. We ordered the clams, shrimp and oysters for an appetizer which were good and fresh. For lunch I ordered the chicken sandwich which was supposed to be chicken with a dry rub and slaw on a bun with cheese. My sandwich came without any dry rub or slaw and looked like a glorified grilled cheese with a huge chicken breast. My fries were cold and with only 2 of us ordering food this was unacceptable. My friend for the lobster roll which was good, but for $25 we could have gone somewhere else where we would both have been happy with our meals. Overall this place has a great view but the food seems tired and needs work. With a relatively smaller menu there should be no reason to be messing up simple orders. Will most likely not return.

Four of us had lunch here today. We had heard that it had been renovated. And it looks nice. There are some odd twists and turns. The restrooms are very tight. The tables and chair are comfortable and not too crowded. The food was good and well presented. But not as hot as it should have been. The clam roll said served with tartar sauce, but we had to ask. The fish and chips was said to be good and my husband liked the chipotle fish sandwich. Prices are a little higher than comparable places, portions a little smaller. Wine and beer prices are also highish. Service was very good. Chelsea was just friendly enough and very helpful.

Captain Kidd has a terrific location. You should request dock dining if it's warm enough. The interior is also very nice, using what appears to be salvaged wood. Be careful when ordering Starters. They are LARGE. We ordered 4 and needed maybe 2.5. The tempura green beans weren't great and the accompanying aoli had no taste whatsoever. The cod tacos were really delicious. I can't remember what else we had, but they were all good. I'll be back!

The view is the reason to come to this place. My husband got the lobster roll which was great, but my lobster panzanella was over spiced with cold bread and didn't taste like lobster. The busser also took away our steamers before they were gone. Too much money for not a great experience.
